Something to do with the family on the weekend.

Assallamu Alaikum –

Although spring is in full bloom at this time of the year… some of you may have to stay inside due to the pollen or maybe just a rainy day.  I want to share with you some ideas that you may want to do as indoor activities with your family.

As I try …really … and yes I get alot of push back … is to try to incorporate Islamic teachings in daily life.  And playing Xbox doesn’t really count. [Anyone know of any Islamic Xbox games?]  So in lew of prying my children off of the glass box … aka … TV…they turn their attention to their massive Lego collections.  So, I created a little competition for my eldest to build a masjid instead of a stadium (Barnabeau) … and here is what I got:

Lego Masjid by Moaad
Lego Masjid by Moaad

I thought this was amazing… I made the effects because I tried to weed out the messiness surrounding the Masjid Moaad.

Some other things that I like to do with the family indoors are:

  1. Listen to stories of the prophets in “English”.
  2. Make pizza – together!
  3. Watch a really good documentary
  4. Hang out and play scrabble
  5. Play Jengga
  6. Create New Bionicles and wreck the ones the company painstakingly designed
  7. Read together
  8. Draw and create comics!
  9. Eat
Stuff we like to do Outdoors are:
  1. Go to the Masjid together
  2. Walk on the lake
  3. Drive to the local farms
  4. Go to the beach
  5. Have a picnic
  6. Bowling – especially when its rainy or cold outside!
  7. Taste new foods
  8. Go to the museums
  9. Eat ice cream
  10. Go to the soccer field
  11. Go to the baseball field
There is more … I think we do … or I should say I do… but Allhamdullilah… some things to do TOGETHER as a family…although each family probably have their own favorite thing to do it is important that we take a moment out of our busy lives to relax and enjoy one another in a relaxed setting.  No homework needing to be done nor any housework needing to be done…Activities with the family allow children to see what a good family is about.  They see how their mother’s and fathers interact with each other which they will store in their minds until their marriage day arrives.  The proverb where the Nut doesn’t fall far from the Tree still stands true today.  We, adults, are the role models for children today.  If our children are lazy or have bad behavior let’s check and introspect ourselves and Insha Allah you will be able to bring only the  best out of yourself!  So, go and enjoy fun time with the family… and remember that doesn’t mean you need to spend money in doing so. :)…. the best..best past time with my family is when we all sit in the same room and have light conversation but are busy doing things we like – playing, reading, sleeping … what are your favorite pastimes to do collectively as a family… share please!
