A Thousand Ifthar’s – A Ramadan program for needy children

Prophet pbuh said, “The person who gives ifthar dish to those who are fasting, will gain reward of that person, without the slightest reducing the reward.”

(Hadith narrated by At Tirmidhi)

The message is held by communities of ‘Halal is My Way’ to arrange the 1000 halal ifthar event held simultaneously in 8 major cities in Indonesia. With the help of some group of people such as Makelar sedekah (Realtor charity), Berbagi nasi (sharing rice), Mari berjilbab (let veiled), Tangan di atas (Hands above), and others. Activities included ifthar, meals, and gifts for the poor and orphans.

In Bogor (West Java, Indonesia) we held one of the 1000 ifthar events for the Hidayatullah boarding school located in the suburban are of Bogor. In tandem with the theme we chose this school because it serves orphans and the underprivileged children.

The religious teacher who first started Hidayatullah boarding school said:
“When I was assigned to manage the school, there were weeds everywhere. It’s height higher than a person! Also, large trees filled every part of the 7 hectares. The building onsite, looked very old and neglected since it was abandoned by the owner. Originally this area was used for military training that was eventually abandoned. I worked hard to restore the building and land so it could be used by the orphans and underprivileged children. Many times I slept on the ground with just the sky over my head.”

Now the look and feel of the place is very impressive. Even more so when students originating collectively from 33 provinces in Indonesia enjoyed their ifthar which we provided. It was an impressive site and an even more impressive feeling. They shared their stories about the time they joined to the school, or usual activities that they do every day, or stories about what they learned in school. Teachers are eager, excited and devoted to the well being of their students. And yet this is a non-profit school.

How can they survive without any charge from the 71 students? Subhaanallah Allah is the rizq giver … Allah almighty, Allah almighty guardians of orphans, the poor, and provides ease for anyone who works with sincerity. They usually anticipate it by fasting on Mondays and Thursdays to survive and save money from the cost of 27 million Rupiah (USD 2700) per month. But once again subhaanallah God loves them, always come easily to them.

Al Baqoroh (215):

Meaning:

“They ask you [O Muhammad] about what they spend. Say “Whatever you spend of good is [to be] for parents and relatives and orphans and the needy and the traveller. And whatever you do of good – indeed, Allah is Knowing of it “.

Al Baqoroh: (220)

في الدنيا والاخرة ويسئلونك عن اليتمى قل اصلاح لهم خير وان تخالطوهم فاخوانكم والله يعلم المفسد من المصلح ولو شاء الله لاعنتكم ان الله عزيز حكيم

Meaning:

To this world and the Hereafter. And they ask you about orphans. Say, “Improvement for them is best. And if you mix your affairs with theirs –they are your brothers. And Allah knows the corrupter from the amender. And if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise “.

Although students come from different cities in Indonesia, they live together in harmony and peace, without strife. Only one goal is on their mind. it is to reach divine blessing and to seek knowledge as much as possible. Hopefully it would be easier for the students for their study and daily life through assistance for school, teachers, and orphans students.

Currently the school still needs funds to liberate the land, because the school land belongs to private owner and 2 months before Ramadan, they almost got kicked out of the place, and they are given time to use the land till next Eid Qurban. We wish there are donors who will help the school to survive.

آمين يا رب العالمين
