Coloring Fun In Celebration Of Ramadan

We as adults look forward to the month of Ramadan with the understanding of the multitude of blessings extended to us throughout the month, but our children, who may not have such an understanding, can sometimes become more excited about the prospect of Eid than of fasting. The presence of a weekend school or Islamic school at the mosque can be a great source for exposing our children to the deeper meaning of Ramadan and Eid, but we are not always able to afford or to attend such activities.RamadanRhymes

When raising my son, I often created worksheets and activities comparable to those that he was familiar with from school in order to teach him about the tenets of Islam and over the years our accumulated materials became invaluable for reminding him about the deen. Similarly, Elizabeth Lymer, mother and author of several children’s books, created Ramadan Rhymes in collaboration with Aisha Davies, Sandy Quigley and Kim Reimann.

Ramadan Rhymes is a collection of coloring pages that include several songs about fasting to encourage young children to look forward to being old enough to fast, as well as rhymes about sighting the new moon, reading the Qur’an, praising Allah (SWT), asking for forgiveness, and celebrating ‘Eid.

It loosely follows the Ramadan journey of three children who are fasting for the first time – Noor, Hicham, and Ali. Young Muslims can learn about fasting in a fun way and can discover ways they can participate in worship of Allah SWT during the blessed month – for example, by feeding someone, praying, and being good.

The nursery rhymes coloring book can be used with the free videos on YouTube (‘Elizabeth Lymer’ channel) meaning young children can be happily immersed in Ramadan through rhymes and coloring while their parents are reading the Qur’an and fasting.

My Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr Coloring book is a collection of illustrations gathered from the internet and compiled in book format for offering a basic explanation of what Ramadan is and how it is celebrated. Both Ramadan Rhymes and My Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr Coloring book are available from Mindworks Publishing on the Mindworks website, or you can find them on Amazon.com and AmazonUK.com.
