Gain the rewards from Allah by fasting day of Ashura, 10th Muharram 1434 H (24 November 2012)

Bismillahirrahmaanirrahiim (In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful).

All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger

Today is 5th  of Muharram.

Oh muslimah, I just want to remind myself and you that  in this month (Muharram) there is a day which is the most important and blessed from all days of Muharram, when the muslims will get rewards from Allah Subhanahu Wa ta’ala by fasting at this day.

Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:

“The best of fasts besides the month of Ramadhan is the fasting of Allah’s month of Muharram.” (Narated by Muslim)

Although the fasts of the month of Muharram are not obligatory, but the one who fasts in these days out of his own will and choice is entitled to a great reward by Almighty Allah.

We can start fasting on Monday 5th  and Thursday 8th ,  because fasting  every  monday and thursday are sunnah, the time when our deeds raised to the sky ( narrated by.At-Tirmidhi, 746-747).

When the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam was asked about fasting on Monday, then he said:
“That was the day I was born, the day I was sent as Prophet, or the day of the revelation of the Qur’an to me.”

In the history that comes from Aisha radhiAllahu ‘anha, he said, “The Prophet sallallaahu’ alaihi wasallam always keep fasting Mondays and Thursdays. (Narrated by Imam Five hadith scholars, except Abu Dawud).

The important day is the 10th  of Muharram (24 November 2012) which is the most sacred among all its days. The day of Ashura is mercy from Allah and an opportunity for one to get his sins forgiven

Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:

“This fast is a compensation for the (minor) sins of the past year.”(Narrated by Muslim)

The Jews of Madinah used to fast on the 10th  day of Muharram too, because  that was  day on which the Holy Prophet Musa ‘alaihi Salaam and his followers crossed the Red Sea miraculously, and the Pharaoh (fir’aun) was drowned in its water. When Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam heard this from the Jews, He said, “We are more closely related to Musa than you”. So, Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam commended  the Muslims to fast on the day of Ashura. (Abu Dawood).

Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘If I live to see the next year, in sha Allah, we will fast on the ninth day too.’ But it so happened that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away before the next year came.” [Narrated by Muslim],

Imam At-Tirmidhi mentions that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that we should fast on two days: the 9th  and 10th  of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (Reported by At-Tirmidhi).

Rasulullah Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said:

“Observe the fast of Ashura and oppose the Jews.  Fast a day before it or a day after.” (narrated by Baihaqi).

Oh muslimah, How happy and blessed we are if we can fast Ashura in those  day, 9th n 10th of Muharram (23 and 24 november 2012) or 10th and 11th Muharram (24 and 25 november 2012). Because we will gain a good rewads from the Almighty Allah.

We want to be nearer and closer to Almighty Allah the most compassionate and the most merciful by doing nawafil  (voluntary deeds) like fasting during this month of Muharram specially fasting at Ashura .

Allah says in Hadith Qudsi:

….and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (voluntary deeds) until I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My Protection, I will protect him…” [narrated by Bukhari]

May Allah keep us healthy and bless to fast Ashura this year and do other Nawafil..

May Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta’aala Accept all of our Deeds for His Sake, Shower us with His Mercy and Forgive our sins. Allahumma Aamiin.
