Hajj Awareness 2

Alhamdullilah. So you have arrived safely in Mekkah and done the Umrah. You are now preparing yourself for the Hajj rituals, the overnight at Arafah, the stoning of the devil in Mina  and other practicalities.

How do you maintain your health amidst the 3 over million people all gathered for the same purpose? First things first, get your basic health routines right.

1)Eat & Drink-Rehydrate,rehydrate,rehydrate. The weather will be hot & dry.So please remember to drink plenty of fluids(water and juice )is the best.Avoid carbonated/fizzy drinks as these will tend to increase your thirst due to its high sugar content.Drink only bottled water. Tap water is not potable. Minimise tea/coffee as these are diuretics and increase your urge to pass water.

Eat a well balanced meal.Fruits and vegetable for the nutrients and to keep your bowels going.Eat cooked food and buy from hygienic sellers & clean stalls/shops. This helps reduce your risk of getting diarrhoea.

2)Sleep- Get adequate rest and sleep in preparation for the following day’s manasik.Avoid tea/coffee close to bedtime.

3)Sun protection: Use sunshades, sunscreen lotion, protective clothing.

4)General Hygiene: Wash your hands after visiting the toilet & before eating. Cover nose and mouth when coughing/sneezing.

5) Medication: Take your regular medications as prescribed.
