How to Perform Prayer (Shalat)

Prayer is so important for a Muslim/ Muslima, that it is referenced thus in the following hadiths:

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA),

I heard Allah’s Messenger (SAW) saying, “Tell me, if there were a stream at the door of one of you in which he takes a bath five times a day, would any filth remain upon his body?” They replied, “No dirt would remain.” He (SAW) said, “Similar is the case of the five (obligatory) prayers. Allah obliterates all sins as a result of offering them.” (Bukhari: 528, Muslim: 667)

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA),

Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “There are some angels who take their turns for visiting you by night and by day, and they all assemble at the Fajr and Asr prayers. Those who have spent night among you, ascend towards the heaven and their Lord, Who is well-informed about them, asks: “In what condition did you leave My slaves?” They reply: “We left them while they were offering prayer and we went to them while they were offering prayer.”  (Bukhari: 555, Muslim: 632)

Ibn Masud (RA) reported:

I asked Allah’s Messenger (SAW) which deeds are loved by Allah, the Exalted? The Holy Prophet said: The prayer (observed) at its appointed time. I again said: What next? He said: Kind treatment towards parents, I said: What next? He said: Jihad in the cause of Allah. (Bukhari: 527, Muslim: 85).

Narrated Buraidah (RA):

Allah’s Messenger (SAW) said, “That which distinguished us from the disbelievers and hypocrites is our commitment to the prayers. He who abandons it, becomes a disbeliever  (At-Tirmidhi: 2626).
