Memorizing Quran with the Family.

“These are the verses of the Koran is full of wisdom” as a guide and a mercy for people who do good “(Surah Luqman: 2-3)

It is our duty as parents to introduce the Qur’an to our children as it will be the guideline of their lives, in fact the best time to start with when the baby is in the womb of the mother.  So, Muslim mom’s please read Qur’an to your babies during your pregnancy.

As parents, our mission in this world is to teach our children the Qur’an.  Now this doesn’t just pertain to memorization or looking at it or reading it blindly… but also to understand the intent of each verse and how it ties into our daily lives. However we have to start somewhere.  Just the other day it was so peaceful for me when the kids played while reciting the versus of the Qur’an.

How did I do it?

In an effort to instill the habit of reading, reciting and memorizing the Qur’an, I encouraged Quranic studies after the Magrib prayer.  I find that at this time the family is together and after a long and hectic day it is quite calming to read and discuss the versus of the Qur’an with my little family.  We do this until the children get ready for bed.  Maybe during their sleep they dream about the versus of Qur’an, the Arabic Alphabet and the meaning of each verse….Insha Allah.

This effort has done us, as a family good.  Allhamdullilah!  However, by memorizing, reading and “translating” the Quran the benefit of understanding the true meaning of the verse is lost in translation.  Therefore difficult to apply to daily life.

To combat this, especially as a non Arabic speaking family, we found a great source on the web that uses a special teaching method to memorize and understand the Qur’an using signals.  Apparently, by using these methodologies, it allows for easy memorization of the Qur’an along with understanding the intent of the Qur’an.  Check it out more here at the website: Rumah Qurani (House of Quran) or for an english version check out Tahfeez ul-Quran

I did attend the workshop and I think this methodology could be used in daily life Insha Allah … better.. parents too can join! Never too late to learn!!

Hopefully what we’ve done for our children will become our Hasanah and also becomes the guiding hand when we no longer can guide them. Ameen…
