Muslimah’s! Welcome the First Ten Days of Dzulhijjah!

My dear akhuwaty muslimah, let’s strive for more rewards from Allah in this month of Dzulhijjah…in two (2) days we will end the month of Dzul Qa’dah and we will start Dzulhijjah (Zul-Hijjah) Insha Allah October 28, 2011! 1 Dzul Hijjah 1432 Hijriah (Islamic calendar).

Praise be to Allah Who created Time and made some times better than others, some months and days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. This encorages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them eager to worship Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepares himself for death and supplies himself in readiness for the Day of Judgement.

The meaning of the word Dzulhijjah (Zul-Hijjah) is the month of “Hajj” (Pilgrimage). Hence, making this a month of tremendous virtues and blessings.  Isn’t that amazing – Mash Allah – that Allah has blessed Muslims with months that all have special meanings and virtues? We, people are given a chance to redeem sins over and over again! May Allah forgive us!

It is in this month that we have been given the chance to fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam “Hajj”.  The act of performing Hajj is performed only in this sacred month.  However, the first Ten (10) days of this month are especially significant and are among the most magnificent and virtuous days in this whole month.

Praise be to Allah Who created Time and made some times better than others, some months and days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. This encorages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepares himself for death and supplies himself in readiness for the Day of Judgement.

“The people performing Hajj or ‘Umrah are the guests of Allah. If they ask Him something He answers them and if they ask him forgiveness He forgives them.” [Related by an-Nassaa’i, ibn Maajah, ibn Hibbaan and ibn Khuzaymah]

Whoever performs Hajj to this house – Kabah- and does not commit any obscenity and wrongdoing, he, or she, will come out as the day he, or she, was born – pure and free from sins. (Bukhari & Muslim).

Performing this act of worship is considered as high as doing Jihaad, which really means the striving in defending the necessities of life. The Messenger of Allah (Muhammad Shalallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said in this regard,”The Jihaad of old people, children, physically weak persons, and womenis by performing Hajj and ‘Umrah.” [Ahmad and An-Nassaa’i]

So what about muslims who can’t perform hajj at that time of hajj ?

Praise be to Allah Subhanahu wa’ta’ala and Rasulullah Shalallahu‘alaihi wasallam, who give us a reward of good action should be done in the First Ten Days of this month, because these days are especially significant and are among the most magnificent and virtuous days in this whole month. No days are as weighty with Allah and so liked by Him for good deeds than the first ten days of DZul-Hijjah .

Therefore in these days increasingly recite: “La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, AlHamdu-lillah, Subhanallah (narrated by: Tabraani).

In view of this, may I have the pleasure of inviting your attention to the following Hadith, as we approach the first 10 Days of Zul-Hijjah:–

It is reported from Ibn Abbaas(radhiyallahu anhu) that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said: ” There is no day wherein any good action is more beloved to Allah Ta’ala than these ten days (the first ten days of Zul Hijjah)”.

The Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) enquired: ” Not even Jihaad in the path of Allah ? “(i.e. are actions performed in these days more beloved than even the act of Jihaad)”. ” Not even Jihaad in the path of Allah,” replied Rasulullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) , ” with the exception of that person who left with his life and wealth (in the path of Allah) and did not return with any of it (i.e. he is martyred)”. (Bukhari, Tabraani)

It is also narrated from Ibn Abbaas(radhiyallanhu) that Rasulullah(shallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said: ” No days are as weighty with Allah and so liked by Him for good deeds than the first ten days of Zul-Hijjah “. Therefore in these days increasingly recite: “La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Al-Hamdu-lillah, Sub-hanallah.” (Tabraani).

The Prophet (shallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said, “One fast during these days is equal to the fasting of one complete year, and the worship of one night during this period is equal to the worship in the “Lailatul-Qadr”.(Tirmizi)

Now sisters… pay attention to the 9th day of Zulhijjah!

The 9th day of Zulhijjah is called ‘Youmul – Arafah” (The Day of Arafah). This is the date when the Hujjaj ( pilgrims) assemble on the plain of Arafat, six miles away from Makkah al-Mukarramah, where they perform the most essential part of the prescribed duties of hajj, namely, the Wuqoof of Arafat (the stay in Arafat).

The Fast of Youmul Arafah:
For those not performing hajj, it is mustahabb (desirable) to fast on this day according to their own lunar calendar dates of their own country . The fast of ‘Youmul Arafah’ has been emphasized by the Prophet(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) as a mustahab (desirable) act. According to a hadith, the fast of this day becomes a cause, hopefully so, of forgiveness for sins committed in one year.
Abu Qataadah(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said: ” I have hope in Allah Ta’ala that the fast of Arafaat will be an atonement for the sins of the past and the forthcoming year.” (Tirmizi).

And also in this month, we celebrate Eid-ul-Adha ( in this year will fall on around November 6 2011 = 10 Dzul hijjah 1432 Hijriah),  is alsoknown as the “Feast of Sacrifice,”and it commemorated Abraham’s
faith and devotion to Allah. Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim ‘alaihissalam).

Subhanallah… May we all be blessed to perform acts of Ibadat during these 10 blessed days and beyound… Aameen
