My Eid Al-Adha split between Jeddah and Yogyakarta

This year, I did not celebrate Eid Al-Adha with my husband. My husband had to go to Indonesia and spent Eid al-Adha there. My children and I were celebrating Eid al-Adha in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

After Fajr prayers at 5:10 am, takbeer had not sound yet from the mosque near my house. However around 6 am I saw a few of men passed my house headed to the field nearby. Not all of the Eid prayer in Saudi provides prayer area for women. However, the field closest to my home provides female prayer area.

Eid Prayer in Jeddah is earlier than in most cities in Indonesia. In Jeddah, Eid prayers usually perform at about 6 -6:30 and finish at 7 am. While in Indonesia generally Eid prayers held at 7 am.

In Indonesia especially in Java usually serves dishes such as ketupat (rice cake) with ‘opor ayam’ (chicken

with coconut milk and spices) sprinkled with fried onions, ‘sambal goreng ati/daging’ (chicken liver/meat condiment), ‘rendang’ (made of beef and spices), etc.

Same as previous years, we slaughter qurban/ animal in Indonesia, because we feel that there are many people there who rarely eat meat, and meat is more expensive than vegetables. My husband in Yogyakarta, Indonesia Alhamdulillah had a chance to see the slaughtered and sent this picture.

Although I cannot spend time with my husband to celebrate Eid al-Adha this year, but we remain grateful for the gift of God’s provision of every single rizq we received.
