Did you know Zakat is Obligatory?

Zakat is to set aside some money/goods (in accordance with Islamic principles) to be distributed to those who deserve it. Zakat is part of  the five pillars of Islam. It is obligatory for Muslims who have fulfilled the provisions. It begins compulsory for Muslims in year two Hijjria.

Ibn Abbas radiyallahu anhu quoting the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who said, “Have they testify that there is no Illah (God) but Allah, and indeed I (Muhammad) is His Messenger. If they then obey it tell them that God has instructed them to pray five times each day. If they obey it, then tell them that God requires them to pay zakat on their property. Zakat is taken from the rich among them and given to the poor among them,” (Narrated by Bukhari Hadith and Nasa’i).

Zakat protects your wealth

Hasan radiyallahu anhu reported, Muhammad the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Protect your wealth with zakat. Treat your sickness with sodaqoh (charity). Encounter the wave distraction with prayer and subservience to God.”

Zakat can eliminate transgression

Jabir radiyallahu anhu told, there was a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him). “O Allah’s Messenger what do you think if someone pays zakat?” Muhammad the Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever pays zakat, then the transgression on him will be away.”

Paying zakat is one of the doors to Heaven

Abu Ayyub radiyallahu anhu said, someone asked the Prophet (peace be upon him).” O Messenger of Allah gives me any kindness that could get me into heaven? “

“Treasure, treasure,” the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said. “The important thing for you is to worship Allah and not associate Him with anything, and perform prayer, give charity, and silaturahim.” (hadits narrated by Bukhori).
