Month of Dhu Al-hijjah has come. People in all over the world who intend to perform hajj have arrived in the holy land of Mecca or
Medina. They must prepare physically and mentally to perform wuquf, throwing jumroh, thowaf, sa’i, etc.
In the month of Dhu Al-hijjah, we (who are able) are also ordered to do qurban to remind us for the struggle of the prophet Ibrahim and Ismail Alaihis-salam.
For those who intend to do qurban, are commanded to not cutting their nails and hair since Dhu al-Hijjah 1st (today) until their animals are slaughtered. As written in the following hadith:
عن أم سلمة رضي الله عنها أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال : ( إِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ
هِلَالَ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ وَأَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يُضَحِّيَ ، فَلْيُمْسِكْ عَنْ
وفي رواية : ( فَلا يَمَسَّ مِنْ شَعَرِهِ ( 1977 ) رواه مسلم (شَعْرِهِ وَأَظْفَارِهِ
.(بَشَرِهِ شَيْئًا وَ
From Ummu Salamah RA that the Prophet وسلم عليه اللّه صلى said:
“If you see the new month of Dhu al-Hijjah, and any one of you want to do qurban* then ought to refrain from cutting hair and nails ” (Hadits narrated by Muslim no 1977).
In another narration: “Do not touch (i.e. cut) hair and skin”.
