Prayer #14: Sitting in between the two prostrations & # 15: Rise to the next rakaat

Prayer #14: Sitting in between the two prostrations

After finishing the prostration, rise to recite takbir (Allahu Akbar) and then stretch out your left foot, sit upon your left foot, enforced by your right foot, and expose your toes to the qiblat.

Prayer when sitting between the two prostrations:

1. When sitting between the two prostrations the Prophet, Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, prayed:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، وَارْحَمْنِي، وَاجْبُرْنِي، وَارْفَعْنِي، وَاهْدِنِي، وَعَافِنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي

Robbighfirlii, warhamnii, wajburnii, warfa’nii, wahdinii, wa ‘aafinii, warzuqnii

O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, protect me, lift my degree, give me a hint, make me healthy, and give me rizq (good luck).

(Abu Dawud, Tirmidzi, Ibnu Majah, and Hakim, legalized by him and approved by Dzahabi)

2. Sometimes he read:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي

Robbighfirlii, robbighfirlii

O Lord, forgive me, forgive me. (Ibnu Majah)

Sometimes he read two prayers at a time during Lail prayers.

Next, perform sujud (prostration) for the second time.

Hudaifa, Radhiyallahu Anhu, reported that Allah’s Apostle, Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, used to make this supplication between the two prostrations: رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي

My Lord, grant me pardon. My Lord, grant me pardon. (Abu Dawud: 874).

Prayer #15Rise to the Next Rakaat

After the second prostration, rise to rakaat (cycles) two with a hand resting on the ground (Shafi’i and Bukhari).

Narrated Malik bin Huwairith Al Laith, Radhiyallahu Anhu: I saw the Prophet, Sallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, offering the prayer and in the odd ruku, he used to sit for a moment before getting up. (Bukhari: 823)

Abu Hurairah, Radhiyallahu Anhu, reported that when Allah’s Messenger, Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, got up for the second rakaat he commenced with the recitation of الحمد لله ربّ العالمين‎ (Alhamdulillaahi robbil ‘aalamiin) and he did not observe silence. (Muslim: 599).
