Rayhan Ramadan

I looked into the clear eyes of the little baby boy in my arms. Subhanallah, how could any parent abandon this cute baby? I wiped the sweat off his forehead and I kissed his chubby and ripe cheeks. He began to cry, asking for milk. I handed the baby over to his foster parents.

Yes, they are a married couple who have earned the trust to take care of the innocent baby. They have been waiting for a long time to have a child. Whenever declared pregnant by a doctor, they can only enjoy having the fetus for a few months in the womb before it was taken back by the Creator.  But without giving up hope, they always pray for a child without ceasing, begging for mercy from the Lord to give them an offspring and endeavoring to see doctors. But whether Allah will deliver the child to them or not, is as He desires, it is the secret of Allah.

Until one day, they knelt in front of the Ka’ba, resigned to their fates, pleading for forgiveness for their sins, surrendering themselves, praying.

God will fulfill his servants’ prayers, either in this world or in the hereafter in His own way. Abu Hurairah narrates that Muhammad Rasulullah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Verily, Allah said: ‘I’m always the presupposition of My servant unto Me, and I am always with him when he prays to Me’.” (Hadits Bukhari Muslim).

In the end, they did not receive the news of the wife’s pregnancy. Rather, they were suddenly offered a little baby by a middle-aged mother. It was like a beautiful dream, it felt like a miracle that God gave to His beloved people. They did not immediately accept the offer, not to reject the boon from God, but because doubts had inevitably also crossed their minds, “Can we carry out this task, O God?” Without the provision of prior parenting experience, to suddenly take care of another’s child makes the responsibility feel bigger. A pregnant woman has about nine months and ten days to mentally, emotionally and physically prepare for the coming of her baby. But this situation is clearly different. There was no time to prepare. Should this sudden offer be accepted or rejected? The decision felt akin to a girl having to decide a marriage proposal.

For two days and nights, sleep became a difficult thing. Only in God can we turn to ask for help in making the best decision…

In the end with sincerity and Bismillah (invoking the name of Allah the most merciful), they accepted the trust. It was the greatest gift for them in the month of Ramadan and an answer to their constant prayers.

May God always bless the foster parents who are genuinely caring for the little baby, Rayhan Ramadan.
