Tips to Start Being An Entrepreneur

Do you want to be an entrepreneur but you do not know how to start? How to enter the market? How to introduce your product? Many similar questions are common before you start the business. Here are some tips to get started.

Starting your own business is a challenge that needs to be conquered. Moreover, getting succeed sometimes is more difficult to be reached. It needs willingness, hard works and pray to your entrepreneurship survival and succeed.

There are some verses in the Qur’an of entrepreneurship such as :

“And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah , and remember Allah often that you may succeed.” (QS. Al-Jummuah:10).

“Those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity. That is because they say, ‘Trade is [just] like interest.’ But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest. So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in interest or usury] – those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 275).

There are some hadith of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH about entrepreneurship as well. Ibn Mas’ud and Umar narrated the companions of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH said

“I saw a young man who amazed me with his piety, and then I asked him about his job, in fact he didn’t do any job, thus his dignity was falling in my eyes.”

The Prophet Muhammad PBUH said, “The best of someone’s income is the one that comes from his own work.” (Narrated by Ibn Maja no. 2138, classed valid by Al Albani).

But sometimes to be an entrepreneur as well as a business owner and manager is not easy. Diah Rupiyati an owner of Honeybros (crafts handmade brooch) in Indonesia stated that her business have been moving forward step by step. Initially she did everything, from collecting the materials to marketing the products herself.

“At the beginning I did everything by myself. Then the demand began to increase. I decided to improve the system and anything that maximizing production and service,” she said. Now she has four employees.

Although her business keep growing and growing and getting stable, Diah realises that there are some obstacles in running her business. It is a little bit difficult to get a qualified staff, especially in production, for her business that has been established in 2012. “It is not easy to find someone who can work hard and meet our standards. Furthermore, loyalty also becomes another problem,” she added.

But Diah always try to solve the problems. She trains her staffs, not only to produce perfect products but also to understand her vision, mission as well as her business values from the beginning.

“A well trained staff with good understanding of our vision, mission as well as our business’ values usually are able to work with us for long period,” explains this 26 years old entrepreneur.

Finally, she gives some tips to start an entrepreneurship based on her experiences. Hard work, patiences, commitment and the inclusion of Allah in every single moves are the key points.

She recommends that continuous learning is very very important for being an entrepreneur. “Learning from the others, learning from experiences and learning from anything such as critics. Because Honeybros would never grow without its customers critics,” she concluded.
