3 Stylish Muslimah Fashions in the Spring 2015

Assalamualaikum Dear Sisters …

What clothes would you wear in this coming Spring?

In terms of clothes, I’m currently living in Saudi Arabia which arguably has quite a lot of rules for women in a variety of ways. One of the rules among a majority of the Muslim population requires Muslim women to wear appropriate hijabs as is commanded by Allah in Al Qur’anul Kareem (Surah an-Nur [24]: 31 and Surah Al Ahzab [33]: 59).

In Saudi Arabia, in addition to the veil, all woman are also required to wear an abaya, usually in black, which is a long dress covering the female body shape (as a cultural symbol of Islam). Women are only permitted to dress in casual clothes without the abaya in a particular area of a residential complex and al- hamdulillah, I feel proud to be a Muslimah because Islam is a religion that is very concerned about courtesy and discipline in the area of clothing.

The basic principle of Islamic fashion is premised around avoiding open nakedness and exaggeration. These rules apply to men as well but are more flexible as long as clothing does not reveal the genitalia. This promotes a culture where a Muslim awakes and dresses in a way that focuses on courtesy in his/her way of being and thinking.

Well, although Muslim women, both expats and natives in Saudi Arabia, wear the abaya inside the country, they can wear stylish Muslimah dresses while traveling outside of Saudi Arabia. And, as we are all aware, before traveling we should know which season it is in the country that we are going to at least one to two weeks in advance. Then, three days before leaving, check the weather forecast for the city or country of destination to be doubly prepared.

Many women like to wear new innovations and trendy fashions to modify their outfits, but we have to be smart, creative and innovative when selecting fashionable designs so that we wear items that can be worn in all situations, especially when travelling. For this reason it’s important to select accessories and apparel that can be used for casual wear, formal events, or for vacationing abroad. Muslimah fashion does not have to be old-fashioned or unfashionable, and wearing a colorful hijab combined with a matching top underneath can make you look more beautiful and attractive.

With spring approaching, let’s discuss how we as Muslim woman can still look good in a dress that is polite and attractive wherever we are located. There are three styles of clothing that you can wear in the spring:

1. Warm Dress Style

You can wear this type of fashion on vacation to countries such as Europe or America. For example, Northern Europe is usually still quite cold in the spring. This is in contrast to Southern Europe in places like Italy where the weather is already hot in the spring as summer comes more quickly there. This the same as in the United State of America. Therefore, adjust your clothing with the weather. Use a thick coat made of fleece to ‘fend’ off cold, and long pants of warm material. A coat can not only warm the body from the cold, but it can create an interesting mix with an elegant Muslim dress. To complement, also wear thick socks and gloves.

2. Rainy Season Style

The cold, wind, and rain usually appears in the spring. To protect our bodies from the cold and wet rain, we can use clothing that is not too thick but still warm. Use cardigans, thick jackets, sweaters, or anything that can provide an extra layer of warmth over your clothing. If you already use a cardigan, it won’t hurt to bring an extra coat to be prepared for cold weather.

A jacket of glossy materials such as leather can make you look trendy while a knit cardigan or sweater can make you look feminine and chic. Bottoms of thick pants or leggings can also warm your body, but if you want to wear a maxi skirt or a dress, layer the dress or skirt with comfortable, warm material to protect your legs. You can also use boots or shoes with thick socks, and a scarf is an accessory that can make you look more fashionable.

3. Casual Dress Style

Do not always remove your jacket if the weather becomes warmer. Jackets can remain and be combined with your everyday look in the spring before summer. Add excitement of your outfit by uniting a jacket or a long blouse with a patterned trouser and a pair of shoes; and a light-colored bag is a nice-looking addition.

I hope you will get inspiration for this year’s spring fashion!
