Surah Al-Falaq and An-Nas were sent down in a package with respect to the test of Allah to Prophet Muhammad pbuh when he was hit by the magic of Labid Ibn- A’sham.

There are seven lessons that we can reflect,

1. When Al-Fatiha is the first surah in the Quran, as the preamble; surah An-Nas is the last letter, as the conclusion of 112 surah; (except surah Al-Fatihah and An-Nas). What is the conclusion? In surah An-Nas is about monotheism that Allah is Rabb (monotheism rububiyah), Malik (monotheism mulkiyah) and Allah (monotheism uluhiyah). The perfection of tawheed or monotheism will be a bastion of anxiety that is whispered by the devil, both from jinn and humans.

2. Rububiyah Tawheed (verse 1) is the Oneness of Allah ta’ala in His work such as creating, controlling, managing, giving rizq, making  things alive, making things dead, or taking care of all that happened in the universe or His creatures.

However, the recognition rububiyah of Allah is not enough for someone to be called as Muslims, because the polytheists in Mecca also recognize that Allah is the Creator of heaven and earth, Allah gives sustenance, Allah who heals and so on. (Read QS. Az-Zukhruf [43]: 9 and Az-Zumar [39]: 38)

3. Mulkiyah Tawheed (verse 2) is Oneness of Allah ta’ala that is exalted in power, and His law as Allah has the right to make rules, Shari’a, and live system. He sent down Islam as a shari’ah (read Surah Al-Jasiyah [45]: 18) for us to follow and leave the opinions of those who do not know. People who actually do the opposite, leaving Shari’a / law of Allah and follow the rules of other than Him, then they’re the infidel, tyrannical, and fasiq (see QS. An-Nisa [4]: 44, 45, and 48).

4. Uluhiyah Tawheed (verse 3) is the Oneness of Allah ta’ala in worship to Him. In worship to Him, we are adhering to the rules, the origin of all worship is forbidden, unless there is a proof that order it (allow it). Deviations in this worship, not just referred as expert of heresy (bid’ah), but could be convicted as idolatrous. One of the worship is prayer (du’a), there are many Muslims pray with intermediaries on the grounds that they do not worship the intermediary but they just get closer to Allah SWT, but Allah has denied their reasons (see QS. Az-Zumar [39]: 3).

5. Since the days of Prophet Muhammad pbuh to the present days, non-Muslims do not care the Muslims will perform tawheed of rububiyah and uluhiyah, but the most they fear  is when the Muslims perform mulkiyah tawheed (monotheism). Disbelievers fought against the Prophet, not because the Prophet and his companions believed and worshiped to Allah SWT, but when Islam is a living system that governs all aspects of life, especially state or political issue.

We see in Muslim majority countries, people who want to implement tawheed (monotheism) mulkiyah system by restoring the Caliphate, always get a tremendous challenge, there is a fear of non-Muslims when in power, then their interests will be hampered. Ironically, there are some Muslims actually influenced by propaganda of non-Muslims who do not like if Islam becomes the state system.

6. Among Muslims, polemical often occurs, even leading to a conflict of monotheism uluhiyah, this will be resolved when Muslims restore the matter to Allah and His Messenger (Quran and Hadith).

7. The only thing that will save us from the evil whisper of shaitaan for both hidden (jin) and visible (human) is that we hold tauhidul of Allah SWT.
