 GURIA ~

Guria learned to sew from OBAT’s Sewing Center.  As you can tell from her smile, she is enjoying where she is: surrounded by children’s clothing that she helped create.  Guria plans to develop a business out of this newly acquired skill. She wants to earn a steady income so that one day she can send her two children to school.

Jobs are very hard to find for the camp dwellers; discrimination greatly diminishes their prospects.  Most of them have to resort to driving rickshaws or working as daily laborers and hawkers.  For women, chances of finding employment are much less.  The earn only a pittance working as maidservants in various people’s houses.  however, the alternative – arduous factory labor in exchange for a few takas – offers no more appeal.
