There are many beautiful and famous places for you to visit when in Paris. First, I strongly suggest that you see the beauty of the Eiffel Tower, one of the most visible icons located in the city, the first time you visit Paris. I was also fascinated when visiting the Musee de Louvre http://www.louvre.fr/en as there is the popular portrait of the Monalisa on display and wonderful Islamic art collections inside the museum. It is no wonder that the museum is one of the world’s most famous to visit. The art collections contained within this gallery range from pieces that originated hundreds of years ago to modern paintings from current periods. Some of its permanent collections include masterpieces by Da Vinci, Delacroix, Vermeer and Rubens.

The Islamic art within the museum is displayed in chronological order from the 7th century and there are also Islamic art collections that have been modified from the past. The Near Eastern Antiquities section includes the ancient civilizations of the Near East and the artifacts in this gallery contain those from the past eras up to the rise of Islam. The gallery also has wonderful collections of ceramics, metal goods, glass, wood, ivory, carpets, textiles, and miniatures.

In 2003 some of the Islamic art gallery collections were added to the Louvre Museum. Initially the gallery was created in 1890 and was part of the Department of Decorative Arts, and the gallery illustrates the historical relationship between France and the Islamic world. It is the oldest Islamic collection among international museums.

One of the rarest artifacts there is the celestial globe, a very unique and attractive part of the museum. There is also a 10th century ivory box from Andalusia on exhibit, the Pyxided’al-Mughira. The Baptistery of Saint-Louis, the 10th century Shroud of Josse from Iran, and an engraved brass basin from the 13th century Mamluk period (http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/maml/hd_maml.htm) are among the other prized exhibits of the museum. Moreover, we also can enjoy a number of artist’s exhibitions and activities.

Near the Louvre Palace in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, you can find halal restaurants to order fast food or various Mediterranean, Asian and European cuisines. The closest masjid to the Louvre is the Grand Masjid of Paris in the 5th arrondissement.
