Top 10 Halal Friendly Holiday Destinations 2014 ~ (Non-OIC Countries)

A few days ago aMuslima published the top 10 halal friendly holiday destination for 2014 for the OIC countries based on a ranking from Crescentrating. Here are the top ten halal friendly holiday destination for 2014 for non-OIC (non-Organisation of the Islamic Conference) countries. Starting from the lowest rank.

10. Tanzania

Tanzania is the largest country in eastern Africa with a Muslim population around 35%, and Zanzibar is more than 99% Muslim. This country has many national parks with wonderful attractions to visit, including the Arusha National Park, Mikumi National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti National Park, Tarangire National Park and Ruaha National Park. The Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, is located in Tanzania and adventurous travellers can hike the mountain. Dar es Salaam is the largest and richest city in Tanzania and the city also has several mosques such as the Darkhana Jama’at-Khana, Memon Mosque and the Mosque Ibaddhi located on the same street. As the number of Muslims reaches 35%, it is not too difficult to find halal food in Tanzania. Ugali, Mtori and Mchicha are the most popular dishes eaten in the country. Mandazi is a donut-styled sweet eaten widely.

With Muslim population of 2.2%, Australia (located in Oceania) has a lot of mosques scattered in its cities. There are many halal foods and restaurants, especially in cities that have a number of Muslims, and in major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. It is also easier to find Halal food in some places such as the Gold Coast. The Gold Coast, Australia has scenic beaches and theme parks, and for its Muslim visitors it provides prayer rooms and Halal restaurants. Muslim tourists staying during the Holy month of Ramadan will also find Iftaar, Suhour and night activities.

Germany is ranked 8th for halal friendly holiday destination countries. The country is located in Central Europe and has a Muslim population of 3.7%. Each city in Germany presents its own distinctive atmosphere that has been affected by its historic and ambiances.  Munich was ranked as the world’s most convenient city in 2010 so it’s not unexpected that more than four million Muslims have selected to make the city their home.

Hong Kong is located in Eastern Asia and has an eclectic mixture of local religions numbering 90% and Christians numbering 10%.

The world’s eighth biggest city is home to the second greatest community of Muslims in India and its Halal street food is just as well-known as its art, history and shopping hotspots. The city also plays host to an overabundance of museums, prehistoric temples and narrow bazaars.

The country is situated in Southeastern Europe and has a 40% Muslim population which means that there are sufficient facilities and options available for Halal-aware travellers who visit. Its top destination offers tourists spectacular architecture in Sarajevo, attractive spots in Mostar, magnificent mosques in Bihac, ski destinations and waterfalls – all of which make it a must see destination.

  1. United Kingdom

During the hot summer break, many Gulf travellers like to visit London, the United Kingdom’s capital city (Western Europe). In 2013, U.K was positioned as number 7 in terms of halal-friendliness, but in 2014 it climbed up to rank 4. Hotels have hosted a wealth of services for their Muslim guests in recent years which consist of Arabic speaking staff, halal menus, prayer rooms and female butlers. The Muslim population in U.K. is around 4.4% meaning access to mosques and Halal-restaurants is never too far away.

Around 14.3% of the island city’s population is Muslim, indicating that Muslim travellers do not have to worry about not finding Halal certified restaurants from fine dining to international and fast food as well as mosques. Tourist attractions are tropical forests and botanical gardens for countryside fans, thousands of shops for shopping-lovers and the Singapore Zoo for safari park enthusiasts. Singapore is located in South Eastern Asia.
