What does Islam say about Muslimah’s Jewelry?

O Muslimah, there are several things to consider about jewelry  according to Islam. What do we mean by jewelry here? It does not only encompass those beautiful gold, silver, diamond pieces shaped into beautiful ornaments but also includes all adornments such as clothing, perfume, and make up.

The jewelry that is permitted:

1. Perfume that is used as intimacy with her husband

2. Gold and silk that are worn not as luxurious and pride

Mentioned in the following hadith,

From Abu Musa RA that the Prophet SAW said: “Gold and silk are permitted for women of my Ummah, and forbidden for men.” (Hadith Narrated by Abu Daud, An-Nasa’i, and al-Tirmidhi, and was legalized by Ahmad, Al-Hakim, and At-Thabrani).

3. Clothing with dipped ushfur could be worn inside the house if there is no intention to boast and brag to friends or neighbors. Ushfur is also called Qirthim, is a plant to dye clothing to be golden yellow and shiny.

Jewelry that is forbidden for women:

1. Jewelry worn with the intention to boast or draw attention in front of both women and men

2. Strong fragrant that is used in front of non-mahram

3. Opening the aurat in front of non-mahram.
