Some time ago, our country lost a dedicated young ustadz. He faced the Creator in a relatively young age, 40. Many people were so missed. Men and women, young and old, family, friend, artist until the president, all sent prayers and condolences to his wife and children. Actually the ustadz had a dark life in the past. Many forbidden rules of Islam he had done i.e. drinking, drugs, womanizing, and so on. His parents then invited him to perform pilgrimage to the holy land….

Finally arrived at the point of repentance, Allahu Akbar, he turned back and moved into a new world that was contrary to his past. He then became an ustadz who could enter into all class of society. His past experience made him able to give advice that could be accepted by all people.

This story reminds me to the story of Umar bin Khatab RA. His past life was very anti-Islam and tried to kill the Prophet Muhammad SAW. Through his younger sister (she had converted to Islam before him) who had attracted him to Islam. And Allah SWT answered the Prophet Muhammad pbuh’s prayer so that he converted to Islam before Rasulullah SAW made hijrah to Madinah.

Thousands of people filled the mosque to pray for the ustadz, all people wanted to pray for his ease to meet and obtain forgiveness from Allah SWT, paved his grave, and forgave his sins.

O Muslimah…. has it ever occurred… would so many people who will pray for us when the time comes? Would so many people pray for us, beg forgiveness for the sins that have been done? Would many people who grieve and feel loss of our leave? Is there any useful knowledge for the people we leave behind? Do we have a pious child who always prays for us? Or perpetual charity that flows, adds to our charity scales (hisaab)?

As mentioned in the QS Lukman 31: 33-34

O mankind, fear your Lord and fear a Day when no father will avail his son, nor will a son avail his father at all. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth, so let not the worldly life delude you and be not deceived about Allah by the Deceiver (i.e. Satan).

Indeed, Allah (alone) has knowledge of the Hour and sends down the rain and knows what is in the wombs. And no soul perceives what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

Preparation for the hereafter…. do not wait until we are old, until we are sick, or until we are poor. It is especially made to remind myself to multiply the good deeds and to increase the provision for the hereafter.

Wallahu a’lam

This article is to remember of my beloved mother who passed away on May 25th, 2012. I hope she receives forgiveness from Allah SWT and gets the best place in Your Jannah. Aamiin.
