Which chapter of the Quran should you read while pregnant?

Being pregnant brings about a mix feeling of excitement and anxiousness, no matter if it is your first or fifth. There are many well-meaning advice given to pregnant ladies, especially if it is your first time. The most common I have heard about reading the Quran is for the mother-to-be to read Surah (chapter) Maryam and Surah Yusuf. Reading Surah Maryam is for a smooth and easy delivery while Surah Yusuf is for a good looking child. I have heard a story of how a mother constantly and exclusively read Surah Yusuf while pregnant and the daughter did indeed turn out very beautiful, but that was her only commendable trait.

This story may not be true but there is still something we can learn from it. The benefits of reading the two Surah may be as mentioned earlier but we should also not neglect the rest of the Holy Book. There is no doubt that reading the Quran, whichever Surah it may be, is an excellent practice for anyone, pregnant or otherwise. Studies have shown that the unborn child can hear sounds from outside the mother’s belly, hence we find the practice of parents playing classical music with the headphones put to the belly and fathers being encouraged to talk to their unborn children through the mothers’ bellies. Why not also include Quran reading to the list? The mothers and/or the fathers themselves can read the verses or simply play a recording of it. Surely this is more beneficial for the child than playing Mozart or Beethoven.
