You Don’t Need to Be Rich to Thank Allah

“And (remember) when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshiping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe.” (Holy Quran, Surah 14:7)

During the last days, rain falls almost every day in my hometown. Every TV channel and newspaper broadcasts about floods and disasters. Flooding everywhere has made it difficult for children to go to school or employees to go to work.

In a corner of a housing compound, there is a scavenger who is enjoying the rain. Not just a drop of rain but heavy rain. However the scavenger does not seem concerned, he still carries out his duties.

While in a comfortable home, a lady mourns her life, and feels that she has succumbed to economic difficulties. She laments with tears rolling down her white cheeks, while contrarily, wet, rainy conditions accompany the scavenger outside.

“Why does it seem difficult for me to get what I need?” the lady complains to her friend. “I’ve often spent in charity, not just occasionally but very often, and it is said that every time that we give charity we will be rewarded in kind.”

Her best friend then pulled the lady out of the door and calls to the scavenger who continues searching through the garbage in front of the lady’s house. The two women give the scavenger a bit of warm drink and food and the scavenger looks very thankful. He leaves after finishing his free lunch!

“How do you see him?” the lady asks.

“He enjoys whatever is given to him and you……you have an abundance of your husband’s wealth from Allah for you and your children. You and your kids are always healthy and you are never affected by theft or accidents. Are not the replies of Allah so great?”

Her tears then flow freely wetting her cheeks…….she is filled with regret.

Verily, your Lord is full of Grace for mankind, yet most of them do not give thanks.” (Holy Quran, Surah 27:73)

Thank you Allah for all of the blessings that You have given…..
